Taking its name from the motto of the Govan Weavers Society, Weaving Truth With Trust was a collaboration between community groups, artists and archaeologists to create a textile screen to be displayed in Govan Old Church. The church is home to the Govan Stones, a collection of medieval sculpture carved in a unique style which flourished when Govan was the centre of the Kingdom of Strathclyde, over 1200 years ago. The project drew inspiration from Govan’s rich history of textile manufacturing - from handloom weaving to silk mills - and the screen celebrates the innovation, creativity and industry of the people of Govan, past and present. Its central motif is the Govan Knot, a nod to the GalGael Trust.
The bespoke design was manufactured in lace by Ayrshire-based MYB Textiles, a company with over 100 years of expertise in producing high-quality textiles. The frame for the screen was built by local specialist fabricators Fluxworx. The screen is an entirely unique but understated piece that appears to float behind the newly redisplayed hogback stones, beautifully complementing their texture and colour.
