Northlight Heritage, in partnership with Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust, are working with volunteers in this multi-season excavation of an early medieval dwelling in Glen Shee in the Cairngorms National Park -- only the second Pitcarmick-type house to be investigated archaeologically. The project aims to empower local residents and volunteers from further afield to explore and research the prehistoric and early medieval archaeology of Glenshee, for the benefit of both residents and visitors to the area. Our team trains volunteers in the excavation and recording of Medieval sites, and assists with open days and school visits to the site. The project’s longer-term aims are to use the knowledge gained from the work to build an experimental reconstruction of the house, enhance interpretations of the area’s past and create opportunities for increasing tourism and employment.
