Diving for Pearls
FUNDERS & PARTNERS: Heritage Lottery Fund, Govan and Craigton Integration Network
LOCATION: Govan, Glasgow
Diving for Pearls was a participatory, multi-media project developed and delivered by Govan & Craigton Integration Network. Inspired by Clive Langer and Elvis Costello’s song Shipbuilding, it explored the cultural, social and economic impact of the shipbuilding industry on the population of Govan by focusing on and bringing together people with migrant histories: from the descendants of Highland and Irish settlers to the more recent arrivals from Europe, as well as asylum seekers and refugees from around the world.
Northlight Heritage were commissioned by GCIN to develop and deliver a series of accessible, hands-on workshops exploring the history of Govan and facilitating a wider discussion of our shared histories of journey and migration.
