Burning the Circle
FUNDERS & PARTNERS: National Trust for Scotland, University of Glasgow, Arran Brewery, Northlight Heritage
LOCATION: Arran, North Ayrshire
This experimental archaeology festival runs each year at the reconstructed Bronze Age roundhouse at Brodick Castle. Over the past two years we have built and burnt a timber circle and experimental pyres, and explored ancient technologies and crafts through various activities that evoked the sounds, smells and tastes of the past - brewing beer, making pottery, weaving textiles, casting bronze tools and creating a burnt mound. In 2014 we also worked with postgraduate students from the University of Glasgow to produce a one-off multi-media guided walk.
